In a world where second chances can be rare, Dan Uyemura has not only embraced an opportunity for redemption but has also harnessed the power of software to carve out a unique and inspiring path.
Dan Uyemura, a software expert, recently featured on the Future Fitness podcast, is a passionate advocate for gym owners. He helps gym owners leverage technology. He faced job loss, was diagnosed with ADHD, and was obsessive-compulsive about everything. At one point in his life, he was introduced to drugs—substances that promised increased productivity, focus, and enhanced abilities. However, these drugs eventually deteriorated his well-being to the point of becoming a maniac. He was on the verge of being incarcerated in California State Penitentiary, a facility where killers are sentenced for 21 years. Fortunately, he encountered a judge who worked with him and gave him a chance. His parents worked to bail him out, but he realized he wouldn't learn his lesson if they immediately bailed him out.
Dan had been an entrepreneur throughout his life, drawn to the idea of providing value in exchange for money. While in college, he did paper routes to earn money. He attended college during the internet's rise, and due to his entrepreneurial spirit, he began programming. His first tech job was with a company building web pages for local businesses, including a nightclub company, which unexpectedly turned into his first real business. This experience led him to work as a programmer for traditional companies. Dan developed a passion for CrossFit methodology and the gym environment, inspiring him to open his own gym and create his own software.
Join us for an insightful and thought-provoking conversation as we unravel the story of a CEO in the software industry who defied expectations and emerged triumphant against all odds.

Success begins with aligning your passion and mental focus, coupled with dedicated effort. When you wholeheartedly invest in your aspirations, you not only increase the likelihood of achievement but also pave a path that brings you halfway closer to realizing your desired goal.
Kevin “Bubbles” Gregory, a humble world DEKA champion, shared his humble beginnings in attaining his championship title and stressed that achieving the desired championship took years of hard work. Kevin did not hesitate to be coached by people better than him with extensive experience. He sought their advice to reduce the time spent making mistakes or eliminate them entirely.
As an athlete, Kevin searched for something to keep him accountable in his career — not just to show up, but to have fun with purpose. From joining OCR in 2011 to discovering DEKA and becoming the champion.
In a competition in 2022, Kevin did not anticipate feeling uncomfortable with the footstrap of the machine. It was a lesson learned that he could only control his reaction and mind because he couldn't do anything with the machine's strap.
Kevin studies and observes people performing better in competitions, aiming to beat their records in his training. He emphasizes performing reps perfectly to make it the norm in the mind and the default movement pattern. Kevin possesses physical and mental presence. He delves into the science of how to perform better, incorporating strength, presence of mind, and science to achieve and share his goals with those wanting to learn from him.
Sharing ideas, tips, and strategies with beginners is Kevin’s goal this year, aiming to create more teams in his gym. The most effective way is to learn or study, then do the work, then repeat the process.

Season 13 Episode 3: Margot Brett Leitman Curry’s Storytelling Victories
Thursday Jan 11, 2024
Thursday Jan 11, 2024
Storytelling is an enthralling art form that functions as a potent tool for connection and communication. Essentially, storytelling is the craft of telling stories by combining language, feelings, and creativity to entertain, inform, or elicit a certain reaction from the listener.
Margot Brett Leitman Curry, a storyteller, started with stand-up comedy for six years in New York City and was a theater enthusiast in college. She began telling one true story as the full set and later assumed a new position where she teaches people about pitching and selling at the university. She won a storytelling contest on one-story connections in a variety show. A few weeks later, she competed in a narrative contest about good food. A co-storyteller of hers shared a similar story, but instead of performing it, she chose to use her previous "terrible" narrative that had gone viral a few weeks prior, and she won.
She believes that storytelling is vital to presentation, as people connect more with stories than facts. Surrounding facts with a story while presenting something enhances the impact. She shared some stories about how to manage your audience, one of which is Steve Jobs's backpocket story. In the iPhone launch, he experienced a technical malfunction, and his slide presentation failed. Instead of leaving the audience, he shared a funny story from his youth, and by the time the malfunction was resolved, he continued.
The art of storytelling spans many genres and mediums, from interactive media and novels to podcasts, movies, and traditional oral storytelling passed down through generations. For Margot, understanding the audience is crucial. Learning to discern the audience's mood—whether they prefer something more serious or funny—is important. The story must be true, as people can sense authenticity. "You may not be the most special in the world, but what you can be is relatable to your audience. Have your audience tap into you and see themselves through your story," is her solid foundation in storytelling.

S13: Episode 1 - Eric Malzone Focuses on Longevity
Thursday Dec 28, 2023
Thursday Dec 28, 2023
There are things that we tend to overlook; yet, in reality, they are what we should focus on, rather than constantly chasing 'new things.' Despite all that's happening around us, we should always remain grounded, understand our foundation, and remember why we exist in the first place.
A lot of technologies exist now that can enhance our way of living and improve our health. Eric testifies to that and shares his personal experience with some of these technologies.
Eric, a native of Northern California, has a deep passion for fitness and sports. After a decade in corporate America, he founded CrossFit Pacific Coast in 2008, successfully selling it in 2017 before moving to Montana. As the host of the Future of Fitness podcast, a top-rated B2B show for over three years, Eric shares his insights. He has interviewed many executives, entrepreneurs, health science experts, and anyone fitting into the categories of technology and thought leadership advancement.
Eric shared his experience with the mattress cover they use, designed to improve sleep and notify either you or a third person if you're unwell or in need of assistance. He also discussed other wearable technologies, software, and platforms for promoting longevity.
In the upcoming year, Eric aims to concentrate specifically on women’s health and physiology. He has observed that research in the fitness industry tends to predominantly center around men.
Despite all the technologies Eric mentioned, he believes in prioritizing good basic fundamentals, which he considers more crucial than anything else in business. Emphasizing basic fundamentals, retention, and tasks unique to coaches is key.

Friday Dec 15, 2023
There are things in our past that we wish had never happened or that, if circumstances were different, we might have a more successful or wonderful life in our adult years. However, the reality is that we cannot change the past. What we have now is our present, and our focus should be on turning our past into a lesson, healing from whatever happened to us, and becoming better versions of ourselves.
This is the remarkable story of my dear friend Michael Godard, who endured mental and physical abuse from his stepfather. During his teenage years, he turned to alcohol and drugs, becoming severely addicted. However, he realized that he didn't want to be defined by his past, and he made a profound change in the course of his life.
Michael shared his beautiful life story and his success with us. Make sure never to miss this episode.

During childhood, we learned the importance of self-love, and indeed, we genuinely loved ourselves without considering the idea of not doing so. However, as we age, our perception of beauty changes, leading us to conform to societal norms to feel attractive.
That is the story of our guest for this episode, Yvette Salva. She came from Spain and migrated to the USA in her teenage years. She didn't feel she belonged and was doing a lot of things to prove that she belonged. In that process, she became addicted to an eating disorder, progressing from anorexia and bulimia to alcohol and then drug addiction. She hit rock bottom and thought to herself that she was done.
This episode offers valuable insights into overcoming challenges, showcasing Yvette's journey from adversity to achieving what she once deemed impossible. Now living her dream, she not only embodies personal success but also uplifts and empowers women to become the best versions of themselves.

You won’t regret giving your full attention to the things that matters to you the most. This is the best lesson that Brett learned and applied in his life with his program. Before Brett’s wife died he did not regret that he said ‘I love you’ one last time.
Brett is a renowned speaker, best-selling author, and award-winning health and performance coach. He shared valuable advice and life lessons, illustrating what an imbalanced life should look like.
He also shared a bit about his program The Energy100™ Program. So don’t miss this opportunity to learn this awesome lesson from Brett!
The following important points were discussed:
- You get to the point that you do what you love to do but you get pushed to the wall.
- Busyness is not a currency of anything. It's when we cease to embrace busyness that we find the opportunity to move forward.
- It’s small things. Very small specific things that can make your life change.
- ‘Collect the bad bottles of wine’ — simply means to savor the moment, and open the best ones, make that moment count and memorable.
